I dunno... Other than the computer backup sub-thread, I did not reply to
any more after that.

He did announce to me publically that I was being placed in his kf.
That's when I decided I'd better back off of the thread even tho' it was
not in the least bit upsetting to me.

Unfortunately, the only subject that tends to generate more emotional
responses than gun control is abortion. I won't touch that one any more!

Oddly enough, gun control only seems to really get some far left
responses from Canadians and Europeans, and sometimes Australians.
Places where gun control is far more draconian than it is here.

Most of them don't seem to understand that it's not the "wild west"
here. We have _plenty_ of reasonably tight gun control laws and everyone
does everything in their power to prevent criminals from obtaining them
thru legal channels. Everyone that goes to purchase them (for the most
part) has to undergo a Federal background check. No system is perfect...

But totally banning guns only gives power to the criminals that don't
_obey_ the laws as it makes law abiding citizens helpless. We cannot
rely on the police to protect us as, one, there are not enough of them,
two, the response time is far too slow (it only takes seconds to die or
become permanently disabled by a physical attack) and three, they are
not obliged to protect us.

Police are generally clean up crew and damage control.

But, I'll shut up about it now. ;-) It's not my intent to start another
gun thread. I'm just sorry that Mike took the thread so personally when
I went out of my way to NOT insult anyone for opinions that opposed
mine! I try to have more respect for others than that...

As for peanut oil, I've still not been back to the store to check
prices. I've been buying the generic in 1 gallon containers and my fryer
only holds 4 cups. Dad bought 2 gallons last time and I've cut back on
deep frying so still have 1 1/2 gallons on hand. If you strain and
refrigerate the oil in fryer, it lasts quite awhile. 5 or 6 uses, more
if I fry bacon in it. Not sure why bacon fat increases the life of my
frying oil but it does, and it does not make it smoke up the house at
all.

I've no idea what the smoke point of salted lard is, but it must be
about the same as peanut oil. ;-)
