Over time and with use that chip will become larger (that area will
also rust), and porcelain is glass (that's not enamel, it's
porcelain), so where do you think the next glass sliver will end up...
in sombody's intestines of course... chipped porcelainized cookware is
very dangerous, get rid of it. Porcelainized cookware is very old
fashioned, developed as a way to have nonreactive cookware before the
advent of stainless steel. I'd not own any porcelainized cast iron,
none are worth the ridiculously high prices they charge, and none
offer any cooking advantage... other than that they are available in
pretty colors that may match your panties. And if you must have
pretty cookware crockery ovenware is in every way a far superior
choice. Were it you asked my opinion I'd say send it back for a
credit and buy something else.... I truly don't comprehend your
aversion to repacking that piece and sending it back... typically
Amazon will send the carrier to pick it up. I make a lot of purchases
from Amazon, occasionally I do return something because it arrived
damaged, I've had absolutely no problems with making returns, Amazon
is much too big to hassle its customers over returns. People who are
in love with Le Creuset and its ilk do indeed have more dollars than
brain cells... it's just cheapo cast iron after all... no cast iron
pot is worth more than $10-$15... and only that because it makes a
good door stop. If as you say it weighs too much for you to do a one
time return than it certainly weighs too much for you to live with for
frequent or even occasional use as cookware. Please send it back,
it's damaged beyond utileness... were that chip on the exterior then
it would be a cosmetic blemish there's little danger, but with that
chip at the top inside edge (I only now just looked at your pic) that
pot is literally scrap... send it back, use it as a planter, or toss
it into the trash, but do not use it as cookware.
