Anyone who claims to be thinking about buying a "luxury kitchen design"
for her husband probably is not in the situation of having to "work in
order to live". Besides which, she claimed she was "a grad student
nearing completion of a master's in psychology at an Ivy League school".
That does not sound like someone who has taken a break from school in
order to make ends meet, either. The email was sent via Cox (a cable
company) in Atlanta. So it was not sent from "a different institution
altogether" as you suggest. With the very strong possibility that she
was lying about spamming, why shouldn't she also be lying about being a
student?
The Internet is full of people who use the anonymity to take advantage of
others. It pays to be on guard.
