LOL!!! If I ever tried that as a kid, my parents must have made me
understand how stupid an attempted trick like that is before I was even
old enough to remember trying it, since I don't remember ever being
stupid enough to give it a go. They would almost surely have looked
at me with pitty, and concern that maybe I was an actual moron.
One thing I do remember was them making us stay at the table
until we ate everything they wanted us to eat, so we learned to eat
things we didn't like when we had to. The best thing they taught us
was to eat the things we didn't like *first!*, getting them out of the
way so we could enjoy the rest of the meal. They also taught us to
hold our breath while we did so, because you can't taste anything
while holding your breath. That has been a great thing to know
many times since. When we began to learn to work with them on
stuff like that they would work with us some as well. For example:
So that the disgusting flavor of beets would not contaminate an
otherwise enjoyable meal, they would put the nasty things on a
seperate plate so the juice wouldn't infect the rest of my food.
They might have made me wash the plate myself or something,
but we all washed our own plates, cups and utensils for a number
of years so that wouldn't have mattered anyway.
