Default It's Not OutBack! The Side Porch Steak House

The talk Jani (Little Malice) generated about Outback Steakhouse led me to
this. My LLL will be here for a few days next week so I was scouting around
for places to go.

I didn't know this place was still in business. I haven't been there since
around 1976 or so. The Side Porch Steak House in Bartlett, TN. I Googled
for restaurants nearby and this popped up. I immediately thought "No,
really?! They're still there?"

An unpretentious (closed from 12/23-12/25 - what restaurant does that?)
steak house. IIRC, wonderful steaks, baked potato, salad. They don't
overwhelm you with appetizer selections or soups. They seat from 4:30PM -
8:30 PM, period (according to what I was told when I called).

The place is still there in the same location after all these years. The
steaks were fantastic. And as I said, the place is unpretentious. They
have no plans to turn it into a chain. It's still in the same location
after all these years, an old house circa the 1920's converted into a
restaurant. Limited seating.

When I was 16 or 17 Mom and I would go to the Side Porch for dinner
sometimes. I didn't pay attention to nuances about the old house, like the
hardwood floors and the crown moldings which I seem to recall now. But it's
still in the same place; an old Victorian era house. So if John and I go to
the Side Porch I surely will pay attention to the details just because

But most importantly, I recall the steaks were wonderful. The menu was
simple. The service was excellent. I'm looking forward to going there
again after all these years next week and will report back.
