There ya' go. Old tech sometimes saves the day. I've got an old 1st
gen touchtone cradle phone I keep around just for power failures.

To this day, I've yet to experience a single phone that meets the
sound fidelity standards these old warhorses still provide.
I also have an cheapo princess clone that comes in handy now and then.
When I was taking some computer classes, the school replaced the
school provided phone with a pay phone to prevent long distance abuse
by some jerk students. But, they didn't hardwire it and just plugged
the pay phone into the existing std wall plug-jack. I'd carry my
mini-princess in my book bag and plug it in to the wall jack. (local
calls only).
