Default South Texas Prickly Pear apples - Harvest Time and I need help

I have gather a case of the apples nice and purple and am cooking them
down to make jelly. But now this may be off topic but I have a
problem. I make the jelly all the time and I gather a case every year
but being stupid this year I forgot my gloves. How do you get the
small stickers out of your hands when you can;t see them and you feel
the sting. I only have about 4 of those microscopic things in me.

TIA

Prickly Pear Jelly Recipe
Prickly pear apples (enough to make 3.5 cups of juice)
1 pkg Sure Jell or other Fruit Pectin Jell
6 c. sugar
1-2 tbsp lemon juice (to keep from changeing color)

Pick fruit in Aug- Sep. Should be purple in color.

Wash well. Use tongs to handle fruit (salad or BBQ tongs will work)

Cut fruit in half on a cutting board covered with paper (the juice
will stain badly)

Place fruit in large pot and Add water until fruit is just covered.

Heat water to boiling and Boil for 15 min.

Mash with Potato Masher, And drain through Cheesecloth or cloth Bag.
(This will catch all seeds and small stickers.
Add Lemon Juice. Skim off foam. Follow directions for Juice in the
sure Jell pkg.

Put in Sterilized Jars.

Note: Juice may be frozen or refrigerated for use later.
