For years there was a commercially available product using that method. It
was called the Presto Hot Dogger, and it could cook 6 hot dogs at once.
There are always some available on eBay if you do a search for "Presto Hot
Dogger". There's 10 for sale right now, ranging in price from $3.99 to
$19.99.

My parents had one for years, but didn't use it once. Before that my father
was told by coworkers how to do it using 2 nails and an electric cord, just
like in that video. He worked for an electric utility at the time, so I
guess that was to be expected.
