I have the KA stand mixer and a Cuisinart hand mixer, which I use for
different things. The hand mixer is for quick stuff like mashed
potatoes (right in the pot), egg whites, cake batter and the like. The
stand mixer I like for stiff dough, anything that has to be beaten for
more than a couple of minutes (such as a pecan cookie recipe that has
to be beaten for several minutes or it won't turn out properly),
anything that's going to splatter/billow (splatter guard) such as
whipped cream or flour or needs to be added gradually and takes two
hands to measure it out. And for soups, I have an immersion blender
that just rocks.
I am also a self-professed gadget junkie, but even *I* have irrational
limits to which I will not go, although I'd be hard pressed to name
what that gadget limit might be.
Hmmm, food for another thread, perhaps.
