teflon outgasses around 550, i can't remember if it's a bit less or a
bit more
it does not melt
it outgasses, that is, produces a gas
it is not inert in that it produces a gas and that gas can kill birds
does kill birds
that's not a great and wonderful sign
now if you want to quibble about what inert means, go ahead
