Usually by "physically deleting the other 2 addresses in the
"to" box"

It depends on your newsreader. For example, in Agent I can
set the options to alert me when posts are cross-posted when
I reply. Howevwer, I always look in the "To" or "Newsgroups"
field because there are many posters who deliberately
cross-post and your reply will go to all those groups if you
don't adjust it.

Cross-posting is not always bad - in fact I think the one in
question was my own:-) However, it is a tactic often used by
trolls for maximum annoyance of the maximum number.
