The National Cadet Corps celebrated Cancer Awareness Day at the Madras
Veterinary College campus in the city, yesterday.

Dr Tamilchelvan, NCC officer of the Madras Medical College and a
leading oncologist, elucidated on how meat based food is one of the
major reason for bowel cancer, 'Non vegetarian diet alters the
digestive tract which can lead to bowel cancers, no treatment has been
devised for it as yet'.

He also explained that meat based food products is also one of the
primary causes of breast cancer, 'meat contains large amount of fatty
acid that can lead to breast cancer', added Dr Tamilchelvan.
