If you trust your supermarket, you can keep eggs after purchase at
least 6-8 weeks in the fridge with no problems.
I don't know why you say the whites should be cloudy - if I crack a
super-fresh egg into a custard cup, the counter top can be seen clearly
through the whites (through the egg white, through the clear custard
cup). Throwing out eggs a "few days" after a "sell by" date is a HUGE
waste of money. And eggs.
