Exactly... I understand for most people it is easier to call themselves
vegetarian or semi-vegetarian to save themselves explanations. But as
Peter says, it should suffice to say "I don't eat red meat" and I am
sure no further explanations are needed.
<rant> It makes it very hard for people who are really vegetarians. We
have been offered chicken, fish, etc. as vegetarian food at so-called
'vegetarian-friendly' restaurants simply because the waitperson thought
that was vegetarian. Often, when we explain that vegetarian means no
meat, seafood or poultry in any form, they point out that other
'vegetarian' customers will eat them and they don't understand us. We
even had one person bring a salad with shrimp at a vegetarian potluck
and no he was not trying to mock us, his wife was 'vegetarian' and ate
shrimp.<end rant> Sorry about the rant.
