I think frying would be that "unhealthy" thing the poster was talking
about. :-)
You can, however, make the texture change in a way that most meat-eaters
seem to like by freezing the tofu, then thawing it. It gets chewy and
meat-like. Then try dipping slices of it in barbecue sauce and baking
them. My omnivorous partners really like barbecued-tofu sandwiches. I
can give you more ideas of how to cook tofu if you don't need it crispy.
Oh, and there's a good (and labor-intensive) recipe for tofu "bacon" in
one of my cookbooks. Want it?
