I guess I should explain my "no way" reply since I seem to be among the
most vehement.

Guests for dinner, even overnight guests, business and personal,
are not unusual here. Their advent requires a major amount of
extra effort for me--house cleaning or straightening plus a menu
that's more elaborate than our usual fare. Considering that my
husband's effort extends no further than the invitation, I feel
very justified in requiring advance notice.
