That last comment is the best reason of all to do one or both of:

1) Hopefully, it never happens again. But, if it does, rephrase your comment
to the cop. "Will you be filling out forms, or actually trying to catch this
guy? I'm asking because if I find him first, you better have a REAL strong
stomach".

2) Wait two more years and see if your daughter wants a handgun. Rape
usually does away with any nonsensical thoughts about how evil guns are.
