I understand the reason for not oiling teh gasket. However, I have an
8-qt Presto electric pressure cooker purchased ~1965, which will not seal
properly without a light coating of oil rubbod on the gasket just before
closing the lid. The gasket is washed well and stored dry after use.

FWIW, this is only the 1st replacement gasket I've needed to buy. The
sealing problem (without oil) existing right out of the box.

I also use this unit for canning. I can process 7 pint jars at a time.
