Now that you say it, I remember having tasted y fabulous pinot

Can anybody tell me why sa_u_vignon (the first syllable pronounced
"soh") is so frequently abbreviated to "sav"?

Yeah - Brown Brothers: Had dinner with them here in Vienna. I
remember quite a good sparkler, a fine sauvignon, and a stunning
riesling. (The reds were very good, too, but that was nothing new
to me.)
