I'll bet a nickel that ethological studies would reveal that theanine was
put there by Darwin not for us, but for the benefit of animals that feed on
animals that feed on camellia sinensis. Imagine this internal dialogue of a
yak or monkey: "Gee, I feel relaxed. Think I'll eat more of these leaves.
That tiger over there looks pretty relaxed too - guess I needn't worry about
him. Wonder if he wants to be my friend? Guess I'll go over there and say
hello."
