Phred,

I like to chop up some raw bacon and saute it in a pan until some of
the fat is rendered. Add the trimmed green beans, and season with
cumin, salt, and pepper. Saute until the green beans are cooked to
your desired consistency. I like them straddling the fine line
between crisp and tender.
