Default How Do I Remove Sand from Mollusks?

Believe it or not, some friends of mine who regularly collect mussels on
shore swear by the musselmatic - they put the mussels in a mesh bag and run
them through a wash cycle in the washing machine. They say it takes the
beards right off.
