He's been gone a good while now. Serious injury no matter how it happened.

My old boss (age 83) just fell in his living room one night and hit the
corner of his coffee table. He spent a week in the hospital, then moved
to a facility that provided constant care, then back into the hospital
for a while.

He never did come home again. He died about a month later. Just that quick.
