I thought about calling the local hospitals first (I got so far as
looking them up this afternoon) to see if he was still admitted and
maybe he'd answer the bedside phone. But I didn't want lay into him
too bad the first time we spoke if he'd taken a turn for the worse
(I do have SOME scruples).

OTOH, I didn't want to call the house and have his wife answer just
to hear him yelling, "HANG UP! HANG UP!" from the adjacent room.

But there's still time tonight to check hospitals after his wife has
left for visiting hours and Nurse Ratchet with the big boobs has
finished her 8:PM medication rounds.... Maybe after I have a few
spiced rum and cokes.
