One might argue that it's better to teach them to cook at a YOUNGER age, not just so they'll have years of practice before their teen years, but also so that the results (at a younger age) won't feel so aggravating to the parent. (Lenore Skenazy, founder of Free Range Kids and Let Grow, recently did a podcast about 7th-graders who are so sheltered that they've never used a kitchen knife or even walked a dog - stuff that YOUNGER kids used to do!)
