Because the universe requires balance, I'm the opposite. Every November
I buy a pair of sneakers (so I'll have winter traction) and retire the ones I've
been wearing for a year to use in the garden, for painting, etc. I've always
got two or three pairs of backup sneakers in varying states of wear.

I have a pair of black leather oxfords in a box in the closet, in the unlikely
event I have to dress up. I think their last use was my father-in-law's funeral
in 2016.
