John is both and most likely a large part of why his marriage failed. Being
nuttier than a fruitcake sure didn't help matters either. I suspect when he
meets a woman and she soon find out how needy he is and his ME! ME! ME!
personality comes to the forefront she realizes she's not dealing with a
'normal' or 'balanced' person. It's all about John and no one else.

I think John pushes Bryan's buttons and John knows how to do that.
Bryan should just ignore his bi-polar butt as there is no cure for that
condition, only maintenance and John is not interested in maintaining.
He's just sucking Bryan into his own twisted world. That's why John's
wife fled and took their child so it could have a normal life and not be
jerked around by someone who only cares about themselves. She
probably felt like she was drowning and no one could rescue her but
herself. John will always be bitter because she refused to be his 24
hour caregiver.
