Thanks for that very full response to my question Daniel. So there is no magic about cleaning these curious pans but the preferable course is to chuck them away when they get too dirty! Especially if they have cost as little as they did to me!
I did suspect that when I saw the advice on the GreenPan website which advocated wiping that bonded brown goo with a sponge and soapy water. It must be a bit blindingly obvious that anyone going to the site for information on such a subject has already tried all the most basic cleaning methods and found that they dont work!!!
