They can take the edge off pain. I am not sure they are the best pain
relief on their own. I had oxycontin when I broke my collar bone. I used
them only at night, and that was so I could sleep on my back and not
move. It would wear off around 4 am and i would wake up in severe pain
when I moved in my sleep. Then I would take another and sleep the rest
of the night.
When I broke my ribs I was prescribed a combination of Tylenol 2 and
Motrin and it was very effective.
After heart surgery I was back on opioids, but I stopped as soon as I
could get by without it. Some people would have been looking for a
renewal of their prescription.
