Default GE Warranty service not so good

YMMV but it certainly hasn't been a rip-off for me. This is a 33 year
old house. The appliances are old. The home warranty company sent
people out twice in the last year to replace the "works" in the toilets
(I have two bathrooms). Only a $40 service call; free brand new parts
installed. If I'd called a plumber to deal with it they'd have charged
at least $150 to make a house call to diagnose the problem and then
charge extra for parts and labor. The master bathroom sinks were
continually clogged. Ditto a $40 service call and they cleared them and
removed those stupid pop-up drain things (at my request.) No problems
since. A local plumber would have charged a lot more.

When the refrigerator started acting up, again, a $40 service call. The
guy defrosted the freezer, used a small shop-vac to get rid of the
melted ice, got it working. But he told me it's a temporary fix because
it's an old refrigerator/freezer. He knew it wouldn't keep working so
he contacted the warranty company and said it needs to be replaced.
They sent me a $650 check towards the purchase of a new one.

I'm very satisfied with the premium vs. what I've gotten back in terms
of necessary repairs and services vs. what I'd have to pay out of pocket
just for a diagnosis without it.
