Several of the compounds found in red wine have also been shown to help
prevent cancer and to interact with a protein implicated in life span
extension.

All are made by pressing the (clear) juice out of red grapes and getting
it away from the pigmented skins ASAP. Alas, the health benefits of red
wine are due to things produced by extended contact with the skins.
Still, if you like it, why not drink it? Not everything has to help
your health...

There are studies showing lesser health benefits imparted by the
consumption of white wine. Most recently, alcohol consumption has been
associated with a lowered risk of Alzheimer's. Of course, excessive
alcohol consumption has its health risks, too, as I'm sure your wife has
made clear.
