Default Milk Production

There were some numbers mentioned here about milk production. Right now
I'm watching a PBS series called Power Trip: The Story of Energy and
this segment is about food.

They are showing a dairy farm and how the cows are fed a special diet.
Holsteins is the breed with the best milk production and with the right
diet can produce 25,000 pounds a year, or about 8 gallons a day.
gallon of milk is 8.6 pounds.

The same cows in India he said produce only 1000 pounds of milk a year.

Of course, in a leap year they produce 25,068 pounds.

The cows are fed cotton seeds and almond husks in the mix since they
have a lot of protein and would otherwise be waste.
