Default review: Cave Vin, Minneapolis, MN

My DW and I were visiting her parents in Minneapolis,
and they kindly offered to babysit, so we had a night
out like real adults :-) They suggested we try Cave Vin;
they hadn't been there, but had heard good things.
Cave Vin is at 5555 Xerces, in an unassuming storefront.
Reservations suggested but not required. Dress is quite
casual, and the atmosphere is a bit minimal.

I ordered a glass of sparkling blanc de blanc.
The menu claimed it had notes of apple, and it did in fact,
and was quite pleasant.

We started with olives sauteed in olive oil, garlic,
orange peel, and rosemary. Watch out, DW burnt her
tongue on the first one.

Next DW had the beet salad with walnuts and gorgonzola.
Tasted toasty, not beety at all.
I had the goat cheese salad on baby greens, which was
good. Two people could split one salad without feeling
shortchanged, I think.

For the main dish, DW had squash ravioli, and I had
the pappilmumble (ok, I don't remember what it was called,
but it had roast chicken, artichokes, pasta, and a light sauce).
We both wanted to stop eating to save room for dessert,
but DW didn't have the willpower.

For afters we shared a pot au chocolate, which was
as chocolaty and creamy as one could desire.

Total tab for two including tip: $85. It'd be easy
to blow $100 for two here. DW gave it five stars
for food and two for ambiance.

So there you are. I recommend it if you're looking for
a treat for a foodie.

Respectfully submitted,
D.K.
