Having grown up in Canada I can tell you that the common understanding
about our Thanksgiving is that it is based on the Pilgrim fathers. That
may be because the initial influx of settlers in this country were
Loyalists coming here are refugees from the US. It may also be that most
of us lived close to the American border so we were exposed to American
culture.
