Maker of Twinkies Files for Bankruptcy
Interstate Bakeries Corp., the largest wholesale bakery in the U.S.,
filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Wednesday, listing more than $1.3
billion in debts. The company, which produces Wonder bread and Hostess
Twinkies, cited the falling demand for its bread and bakery products
amid the popularity of low-carbohydrate diets as a reason for its
financial woes.
