That is a bit of an issue in education here. Teachers are paid for their
qualification, whether or not they are required for their position.Back
in the 70s when my wife started teaching you could get into teacher's
college without a degree, but the rules changed, so all teachers have a
minimum of a Bachelor's degree. A masters of a Phd will get them even
more money. A kindergarten teacher could feasibly hold a Phd in nuclear
engineering and be paid thousands of dollars a year extra, and never
have to use that education on the job.

My degree did not get my job, nor was I paid extra for it. However, I
did get a lot of special assignments where my education and previous
research experience were helpful.
