I read this SO long ago...

All I remember was that she was only referred to as "Bird Woman" in the story (which was her name, in fact) and that the men had caught some animal and were cooking it, but it smelled inexplicably horrible while it was roasting, and the only man hungry enough to try it spat it out. Enter Bird Woman, who puts her knowledge to work and turns it into a good meal - but only after quite a while, I think. (She may have used local plants.) The story ended by saying that the problem was solved so well, the men even gnawed the bones as best they could.

Has anyone heard this?
