Not necessarily. When I worked at K Mart, our computer system was constantly
messed up. No matter how many times we did inventory and changed the
numbers, they would revert back to the wrong numbers. By that point in time,
everything was supposed to be ordered automatically. We were just supposed
to check and make sure that the numbers were correct in the system. They
never were. It was frustrating because there was nothing we could do about
it. This led us to constantly be out of some things and overstocked on
others.

When I first started there, we had notebooks with paper pages. Inventory was
kept by using notations with a pencil. Goods were ordered over the phone as
needed, with the exception of the things that came from our warehouses.
Those came automatically.

By the time I quit, the only things that could be ordered by phone were live
plants. Everything else came from our warehouses and it was a total SNAFU.
