I've got 2 or 3 of those small kitchen timers and for the waffles I just
set one of them for 2 minutes while I do something else like get the
maple syrup out of the refrigerator. Of that, I pour out what I think
I'll need for those waffles into a 1 cup glass measuring cup to be heated
in the microwave. When the 2 minute times goes off I pull out the pan and
turn the waffles over, set timer, do something else.
Cornbread in a small skillet turns out well, too, or a pot pie.
