Cloves in bean soup?

When I was a young boy, I got it in my mind that cloves would go good in stew so I made beef stew seasoned with cloves. It tasted pretty much the way that I had it in my brainpan but my mom suggested that it was odd. It must have been pretty bad if my mom said a discouraging word about it so I never did it again. OTOH, I thought it was okay.
