Well there you go. Now you have to admit that you are wrong?
I Googled potluck and it reinforced what I thought it meant. It doesn't
matter if only some of the attendees bring food, or that there may a
request for a signup for various courses, or if it is just finger foods.
The thing is that people don't know what others are bringing.

It can also apply to an unplanned dinner invitation... whatever there is
to make a meal.
