Have you ever made Suikerbrood or Sugar Bread? It is basically a brioche
type dough in which pieces of crushed sugar cubes are incorporated. On
baking, they dissolve leaving little holes throughout the bread. I got
the recipe from a book on Dutch baking that my ex gave me (her husband
is Dutch). The book describes butter letters but doesn't give a recipe.
I have some crushed maple sugar in the cupboard and have thought of
making a Canadian version.
