I rented a bedsit as a post-grad and it had a meter. I thought it was
expensive but in fact the landlord had wired it incorrectly. When I put
in a shilling and turned the knob, instead of just rotating back to
zero, it went all round the dial so I was in fact getting about 10
bobsworth! The landlord thought I was somehow fiddling it but it
eventually broke down and he realised his mistake.
