I remember getting into an argument with an older woman back in the
1980's. She must have thought I was a bit of an upstart. I was at a
party and a guest burned herself preparing appetizers in the kitchen.
The older women were all like "put butter on it". Oh, fer cryin' out
loud, don't do that! Just so happens the party was at a doctor's house
and he agreed with me. Just cold water, not ice, and definitely not
butter or ointment on a burn. If you must have a bandage, use loosely
wrapped gauze.
