That's the thing - Win 10 does use more of your computer's resources,
and yet there isn't a whole lot in Win 10 that isn't already in Win 7,
aside from that horrible Win 10 GUI. Most people upgrading from Win 7
won't see any benefits.

Yes. 5 years is a long time, IMO.

I can't get past the GUI, unfortunately. I just don't like it and I
never will like it. That said, it can be changed with 'Classic shell'

I still use XP on one machine here that runs my security cameras
around the property. Then again, I still have some 386 machines
running Win 3.11 (and earlier). I fire them up occasionally and go
online, just for fun.
