Flush it with petrol/gas each time after use and refill with bar oil
when not using it that way for extended periods.

Using veg oil certainly won't hurt a chainsaw sprocket, bar and chain
(the only things that can possibly be damaged) for that short period
of time on soft materials. I've also been doing it for years to cut
fruit wood to make wood chips for the smoker.
