For the most part, yes they are. I have a friend in NC who constantly
taunts me with what he pays for this or that. However, I saw baby
corn (fresh) in the produce section today. It was a 8-10 oz package
of corn mixed with sugar snap peas for $2.99.

I guess you get those good prices because you're surrounded by chicken
processing plants. Currently, boneless chicken thigh and breasts are
$1.99 lb and I can buy them individually from the meat case. I
thought the price would go back up this week, but it hasn't.

I don't know what I'd do with 8lb of potatoes. They'd spoil before I
used them up - you know the saying: the most expensive food is
whatever you throw out.
