That makes sense to me.
I bought a small jar of it from Penzey's, well under $2, which seemed cheap
to me until I read about the prices at Asian groceries.
Still--I have seen Asian and Indian markets and they always seem dirty to
me. I have gone in, looked around, seen some good buys, but I don't trust
them because the stores seem dirty and I don't really know what the
standards for packaging plants in the far east are. Also, who knows what
kind of infestation there might be on those cargo ships? It's all too scary
to ponder. I just pay extra for the (Perhaps false sense of) security from
foods manufactured or packaged here in the U.S. The only imported foods I
will use are canned or jarred.
I don't even like to buy certain types of foods at those closeout stores or
dollar stores, because they don't look particularly clean, and also because
much of their (non-food) merchandise comes from China and again, I'm
concerned about infestation from those freighters.
Call me prejudiced if ya want. I just prefer not to buy food that has even
the remotest possibility to be infested.
