I've never tasted Marmite before either but its main flavor component is from dead yeast cells - just like nutritional yeast or brewers yeast which is commonly used as a flavor enhancer i.e., a socially acceptable MSG substitute. A Marmite chip is gonna be packed with umami flavor.
