I suspect one's taste receptors improve with use. Sutter Home and
other jug wines are NOT on my list of drinkable wines. Consequently,
I also do not use it for cooking.

Yes, there are good drinkable wines in the lower price ranges. OZ and
NZ wines are fairly inexpensive (< $10), yet quite good.
